“Tenet” is a 2020 science fiction action thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, starring John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh. The story follows a former CIA agent recruited by a secret organization to trace the origin of objects traveling backward through time and prevent an attack from the future.
Nolan spent over a decade developing the film’s central ideas and took five years to write the screenplay. Filming took place across multiple countries, including Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, the UK, and the US. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema shot the film on 65 mm and IMAX. Despite delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, “Tenet” was released in the UK on August 26, 2020, and in the US on September 3, 2020, in various formats including IMAX, 35 mm, and 70 mm.
